Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)
At Ryecroft, we are committed to ensuring that every child feels valued, included and supported to achieve their very best. We believe that every child has the right to learn, grow and succeed in a nurturing and inclusive environment where their voice is heard, their individual strengths are recognised and they are able to participate fully in school life.
Our approach to Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) is rooted in our belief that every child is unique. We recognise that some children may need additional or different support at different points in their school journey, and we work hard to identify these needs early and put the right support in place.
High-quality, inclusive teaching sits at the heart of our SEND provision. Our teachers adapt their teaching and classroom practice to respond to the individual needs of pupils, while maintaining high expectations for everyone. Where children require additional support, we carefully consider the most appropriate provision to help them make progress academically, socially and emotionally.
Working in Partnership with Families
We believe that the best outcomes for children are achieved when school and families work together.
Parents and carers know their children best, and their knowledge, views and experiences are an important part of the support we provide. We aim to communicate openly with families, listen carefully to concerns and involve parents and carers in decisions about their child's provision.
Most importantly, we listen to our children. We want pupils with SEND to understand the support they receive, feel confident to express their views and know that their voice matters.
Working with Other Professionals
Where appropriate, we work closely with a range of external professionals and specialist services. This enables us to draw upon additional expertise, develop our own practice and ensure that support is coordinated around the individual needs of the child.
This may include working with services such as:
- Educational Psychology
- Autism and inclusion services
- Speech and Language Therapy
- Occupational Therapy
- Health professionals
- Early Help and family support services
- Other specialist education services
By working collaboratively with families, school staff and other professionals, we aim to ensure that children receive the right support at the right time.
An Inclusive School for Every Child
Inclusion at Ryecroft is not simply the responsibility of our SEND team. It is everyone's responsibility and is part of everything we do.
We are continually developing our knowledge, provision and practice so that barriers to learning and participation are identified and reduced wherever possible.
Our ambition is simple: every child at Ryecroft should feel that they belong, know that they are valued and have every opportunity to flourish.
Parents and carers who have any questions or concerns about their child's learning, development or additional needs are encouraged to speak to their child's class teachers or our SENDCo. We will always be happy to listen, offer advice and work with you to consider the next steps.
