We recognise that all adults, including temporary staff, volunteers and academy representatives, have a full and active part to play in protecting our students from harm, and that the child or young person’s welfare is our paramount concern.
Ryecroft CE Middle School provides a caring, positive, safe and stimulating environment that promotes the social, emotional, physical and moral development of the individual child or young person.
We have a team of Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSL) to support our students. Our lead DSL is Mrs A Grattage (Executive Headteacher). Mrs Grattage is supported by four Deputy Designated Safeguarding Leads and both the Pastoral and SEND teams. The Designated Teacher for Looked After Children in Mrs J Martin.

Responding to Safeguarding Concerns
Staff at Ryecroft understand that we all have a responsibility to make sure that concerns about children and vulnerable adults are passed to the school’s safeguarding team without delay. All concerns are reviewed by our safeguarding team to determine the appropriate course of action.
When concerned about the welfare of a child, staff always act in the best interests of the child. Any safeguarding disclosure reported by a child to school will automatically be referred to social care (if relevant) and recorded on the school’s recording system.

Operation Encompass
Operation Encompass is a multi-agency approach to give early introduction to schools, academies, colleges, and nurseries that a child and young person has recently been present, witnessed or been involved in domestic abuse (DA) Incident.
Staffordshire Police in conjunction with the partners to this agreement will inform the nominated “Key Adults” within these establishments to afford them the opportunity of assessing the needs of the child or young person during the school day and, should it be deemed appropriate to do so, to the prove early support.
